WELLINGTON.

(From our own Correspondent.) This day. Immigrants. The last of tlie Lammerehagen's immigrants were tended to-day. 1 hey are a cleun and healthy lot— very German-looking. Hamburg Irsurance Agency. The Trans-Atlantic Fire Insurance Company, of Hamburg, have established an agency here. Denis Wright. Denis Wright, who so narrowly escaped in Supreme Court recently, has filed a declaration of his inability to meet his liabilities to his creditors. The Chief Justice CensuredThe Post pitches into the Chief Justice for the severity of his sentence on Cameron, and ridicules the Grand Jmy for takipg up the ro!6 so often played by Mr Justice Johnston : also, calling the attention of his Hoc or to the deficient gaol accommodation. It says the charge was true until recently, but it is so do lotger, es there is now abundant accommodation for the classification of priBOLers, and the Grand Jury ought to have known this. Bemarkably Heavy Sentence. There was a general feeling of profound astonishment when the Chief Justice yesterday morning sentenced Cameron to ten yeais' imprisonment and two whippings for rape. There were peculiar surrounding circumstances which caused the jury to recommend him to mercy, and the general public and even the legal fraternity to believe lie would escape with four years at most. It is well known that Cameron's antecedents are bad, and that he has been in gaol several times ; still, the feeling prevails that the sentence passed was out of all propoition to the crime when viewed by the light of surrounding circumstances. The Chief Justice thus far appears to be as severe in his decisions as Johnston^ a result that was not expected.
