TELEGRAPHIC.

GRAHAMSTOWJST.

(From our Own Correspondent.) This day. Mr Mackay and Sir George Grey. The Advertiser this morning says :—" We have received the following characteristic telegram from Mr Mackay, now in Auckland. Mr Mackay may send us a dozen " cautions" if he likes, but they will not prevent US" from reporting whatever Sir George Grey • may say in public, because we believe with Mr Mackay that he is not " capable of deliberate misrepresentation of facts." Whatever appeared in our report was certainly uttered by the Superintendent, as it was taken down at the time in shorthand, and at the present we cannot regard the statement as '"canards." If Mr Mackay, when he gives us the "other side," can convince us by indisputable facts that such is the case, we shall tell the Superintendent that he is a humbug. Until this is done we must regard Sir George Grey's statements as coirect. The following is Mr Mackay's "caution" :—" I caution you against publishing canards and ex parte statements said to be tittered by • Sir George Grey, whom I do not think to be capable of deliberate misrepresentation of facts. At any rate hear the other side before condemning it. You can publish this or not as you please.—Mackay." A vessel is being built by Mr Stone, and will be launched next week. The Prince Alfred arrived last night from Lyttelton will full cargo of produce for the Thames. Mining Matters. The Hazelbank tribute, from 45 tons, obtained lOlozs. of melted gold. The Queen of Beauty cleaning up to-day, probably have 600ozb. for the fortnight's yield. The City of London and Queen of May's * retorting is postponed till Monday. The .Point Russell tribute, from 7 tons, got loz. 19dwts. 12grs. of melted gold. * The Cure are getting further lots of specimens to-day out of the main drive, and have a good show in the stopes.
