HARBOUR BOARD.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Harbour Board was held this afternoon. There was a full quorum ; and after the usual preliminary formal matters, letters were read, one from TV". Williams, submitting plans for a graving dock. For these it was decided to thank him. From Captain Ashby, showing the urgency of constructin p. a graving dock. From the same gentleman in regard to the deficiency of housing accommodation on the wharf. From certain lessees of wharf endowment allotments in respect to certain alleged grievances. From the Secretary to the Regatta Club, asking for permission to enclose the end of the wharf during Eegatta day. This request was agreed to, after some discussion, during which some of the members expressed an opinion that such proceeding was unworthy of the Board, and that they would have sustained their dignity much better by giving £50 to the committee. Another letter was then referred to the Wharf Committee, in regard to erecting a wharf at Orakei; and some discussion took place in regard to the practice of submitting business to committee instead of investigating them in full meeting of the Board.
