ONEHUNGA PILOT SERVICE.
To the Editor of the Evening Star. Sir —In your publication of yesterday we notice a most scandalous letter of spite on the Manukau Pilot service, signed by one Lesseres (which you seem to have taken up so strongly without adhering to the wise old saying of hearing both sides of a question before giving an opinion). In answer to which letter we have simply to state that Lesseres was discharged from the pilot boat on account of being a most stupid and incompetent boatman, and that his letter is a tissue of false representations which we are willing to come forward and prove. We remain, &c., Richard Skinner, Pilot boatman. Penetana, Pilot boatman. Hugh Evans' (chief boatman and assistant pilot) signature is not attached, being at the pilot station, but will be forthcoming if required to corroborate the above statement. —R. S. and P.
