NEWTON CONGREGATIONAL SUNDAY-SCHOOL.
Some months back an appeal was made through our columns to the public, on behalf of a new building for the above- school, to replace the one destroyed by the cyclone of March last. The committee, though anzioue lo proceed with the matter, determined; that they would not burden themselves ' with a heavy debt, but rather wait a lew months until they had in hand at least two-thirds of the amount required for the enterprise. We ard now glad to be able to announce that the appeal has been liberally responded to. A freehold site has been secured, and paid for, at a cost of 362., while 150/. is carried to building account. The cost of the new hall has been estimated at 242?., and its. erection will be commenced forthwith. The committee want some 90/. additional, in order to carry out their present intention, ,viz,, to open the building free of debt, and, therefore, urgently request the speedy fulfilment. of. promises of assistance already made, as well as the aid of all those who may feel disposed, to aid in so praiseworthy an object. We may mention, in addition, that it is intended to make the ball available for public meetings, lectures, &c,; and in that respeot will thus meet a muchneeded requirement in the rising and populous suburb of .Newton.
