DEVONPORT HIGHWAY BOARD.
TnE annual meeting of the ratepayers of the Devonport Highway District was held yesterday in tlio Davenport Ha 11,., North Shore ; Mr. S. Ooohraue in the chair. The receipts were as follows:—Kates collected, £281 19s 9d; subscriptions iv aid, £1 10s ; from Colonial Government, £131 5s ; Dog ; Act, £7 ss; impounding, £8 lla 4d'j sundries, cattle fees, £31 10s; total, £462 Is Id. Expenditure: Perming and metalling roadi, bridges, and culverts, £299 2s sd; other works, £56 5s 8d; collector's commission, £23 8s 6d ; salaries and rent;.£s7 7s 7d;; printing, advertising, &c, £13 19s Bd. Miscellaneous : Dog Act, £1 3s lid; Impounding Act, £7 17s 2d ; sundries, £8 17s lid. A penny rate was struck, and trustees elected for the ensuing year.
The following are the names of the newtrustees, with the numbers obtained by each : —Messrs. Niccol (144), Leek (119), Cochrane (118;, Lewis (105), Joha Holmes (88). Subsequently, a meeting of trustees was held at the residence of Mr. Cochraue, at half-past seven o'clock, -when Mr. Niecol was elected Chairman of the Highway Board.
