BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held yesterday afternoon, at the Corporation Offipes, Canada Buildings. Present, The Mayor (P. A. Philips, Esq.) in the chair, and Messrs. Asher, Bugden, George, Maer,eady, Hampton, Staines, and Smart.
MiNT/TEa.—The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
Cobbbspondenoe.—A letter J was read from the Provincial Secretary stating that the Government was prepared to hand over some two hundred yards. of road-metal to the Borough Council" for the improvement of Custom Houses-street, and stating that the Harbour Botrd was now the proper quarter to apply to for the moiety of the expenses of repairing Custom House-street. —Letters were read with regard to certain improvements for Gqpfton Road and JKJyber Pass Road.—The matter was referred to the Foreman of Works to report on immediately. —A letter was received from Mr. Murray, of the Circus company, asking permission of the Council to erect a temporary building (a circus) on the Market Reserve, for a period not exceeding two months.- If appeared that Mr. Murray had made the necessary arrangements with the Provincial Government.—Permission granted—the Circus to be erected under the supervision of the Foreman of Works.-—The Foreman of Works was authorised to make some repairs to a certain lane leading from Barrack-street.
Shaeebbokees. — Councillor Asher gave notice that he would move next sitting day that a by-law be made empowering the police to move on the' people dabbling in sJ(iares at scrip corner. ; , i 7 ~
