ARRIVAL OF THE 'MERLIN,' FROM TAURANGA.
SELLING ARMS AND AMMUNITION TO THE NATIVES. NARROW E&CArE OP THE ' HAZARD.'
THE 'NEVADA' AT NAPIER.
The smart schooner Merlin arrived in harbour this merning from Tauranga. We learn from Captain Moller that a telegram was received at Tauranga on Sunday, announcing the arrival of the Phcebe with the English telegrams at Nelson on Saturday afternoon, and the Nevada at Napier late on Saturday night. The p.s. Luna, from Auckland, arrived at Tauranga at G p.m. on Saturday last, and left again at 6 o'clock on Monday morning for the East Coast. The cutter Mary Eliza left Tauranga for Auckland via Wangamata on Tuesday. A man named Hurley has been apprehended at Tauranga for selling arms and ammunition to the natives at Katalcata. Hurley is now imprisoned at Tauranga. and will be brought up by the next boat, to be tried at the Supreme Court. The cutler Hazard has had a narrow escape from being wrecked. She got too close in-shore, and was obliged to run in over the bar. When crossing, a heavy sea swept over her, washing the master from the wheel to the nose of the vessel, where he managed to save himself by clinging to a rope.
