MAIL VIA FIJI.

We nre glad to observe that in order to provide against the loss of a fortnight in the transmission of mails via San Francisco, owing to the change in the mail service, steps are being taken to have a mail forwarded via Fiji. A requisition has been prepared, and lias been signed by all the principal merchants and hankers, asking the Government to subsidise a steamer for the occasion, so us to catch (he City of Melbourne at Fiji. It is sincerely (o be hoped that the application will be conceded, so that no break, however temporary, may occur in the continuity of the mail communication.
