VOLUNTEER BALL.
Last evening,a Volunteer Ball, given by the Band of the Auckland Rifle Volunteers, in honor of the. Southern competitors, came off in the Drill-shed, Princes-street. About eighty couples were present, among whom were a number of the Southern men. Among the guests we noticed Major Heaphy, Captain Rees, Lieutenant Snell, and other of the Voltmteer officers. Dancing com.menced shortly after nine o'clock. The band of the Rifles, led by Mr. McComish, who since the departure" of tho band of H.M.s lßth Regiment fills the place, of Mr. Quinn, leader of that band, played the dance music with excellent taste and time, and fully sustained their reputation as the best baud in Auckland. Mr. Gray provided the supper, and Mr. Hoare supplied refreshments during the evening. The dancing was kept up until an early l^cjur this morning. r -, ~ ....
