The Advertiser has the following :—" The English mail news received by telegraph at the Thames, on arrival of the Wonga Wonga, was forwarded overland to Tauranga for transmission to all the newspapers of the colony subscribing to Greville and Co.'s news despatch line. The mail was sent from this office by special messenger immediately on receipt of the last folio from the telegraph office, and reached Ohinemuri the same evening ; but we learn that on his way across the ranges, beyond the Paeroa, he was pursued and captured by three of Te Hira's scouts. He managed, however, to make good Mb escape, aud returned to Belmont for the night, leaving again by a different route at daylight nest morning."
Meetings of creditors were held yesterday in the estate of H. H. Mailing and Edmund Foley. In both cases Mr. Thomas Macffarlane was appointed trustee. In the first case Messrs. W. Rattray and T. Hampton were appointed supervisors.
Some friend was remonstrating with Clarke the actor, about his profanity, and quoted the scriptural injunction, "Swear not at all." " I don't," said Clarkei "I only swear at those who offend me."
An Illinois editor Bays :—" Trying to do business without.advertising is li_e winking in the dark; you-rarxy know that you are keeping up a powerful winking- but nobody else has any idea of it,"
