OHINEMURI.
THREATENED WAR IN MARCH.
February 21. Te Hiea, in consenting that the mail should pass here undisturbed, has apparently exceeded his authority. " The objectors to the innovar tion, immediately they found their ordergi overruled, set out for the Maori seat of Government, and laid their grievances before the* M" 'lister of the Interior. Their journey,, seemingly, has not been a fruitless one. They; have just returned with strict injunctions from; the King that an aukati be put on the road,, at least against her Majesty's mails. Hunia, a native high iv office in some department of King Tawhiao's Government, has been Bentdown here for the purpose of seeing that the ; oulcati is fully established. He (Huma) left for Katikati yesterday to have an interview with the ma:l contractor and Hori Tupaea, a native chief, whose arguments on a former occasion convinced the Maoris at the time that there was no harm in the mail. lam afraid, now that the King has taken the matter in hand, it will rcqu're something more than words to make them (the Maoris) understand that het Majesty's mails must be allowed to pass. They have not interfered with the mailm&i as yet, but there is no doubt they very soon will. Ohinemu?i, they say, is within the King's, boundaries, having been given over to him some years ago by Te Hira. Should the Hon. the Native Minister have any desire that the public have the advantage of this mail route,. I would advise him to put in an appearance as soon as possible, with a cargo of ingredients for compounding nts Tvorlil-Tenuwned Maori soothing syrup, aVas " Lillipee," which might have the effect of sweetening over the. present difficulty. The parby who came from the King bring; intelligence that war against the palceha begins iv March, also that a number of men have been despatched to pull down the tele* graph at Taupo.— Advertiser.
