ASSAULT AND ARSON AT WAIROA.
On Suuday, the 2nd ulfc., a shoemaker, named Arthur, made a brutal and uncalled-for assault upon liis wifa, who was rescued by a neighbour. Tho husband was summoned to appear before tho Magistrate at Papakura, the wife being sheltered by some friends. Three (lays afterwards lie poured korosene on the beading,, and deliberately fired his house, winch, with its contents, was completely destroyed. Ho then visited Ids wife, bade her and his children good-by, and gave himself up to tho Magistrate. A subscription is on foot to convoy the destitute family to Auckland for relief.—[Correspondent.]
