PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.
In the Provincial Council yesterday, in the absence of the Speaker, Dr. Nicholson occupied the chair. A petition was received from residents at Grahamstown, praying for the extension of the wharf. Various questions were asked, and a petition from the unemployed was received through Mr. Swauson and considered. Various minor subjects came before the Council. The Kaipara Railway Bill passed through committee, was read a third time and passed. The Licensing Bill was further considered in committee, and the House subsequently was counted out.
THIS DAY.
Besides the whole of the bills now passing through the Council, the only matter of much importance for consideration is the proposal of the Provincial Secretary for reserving as a site for the Grammar School two acres of land in Sjmonds-street, nearly opposite the Barrack gate.
