ORDINATION AT ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL.
A tery interesting ordination service took place to-day in the Cathedral Church of St. Paul's. There was a very large number present, the building being quite full, and great, jut ores!, was manifested in the solemn proceedings of the occasion. There was full Cathedral service, the choir of St. Paul's being assisted by Mr. Brown and the choir of St.. Matthew's, and that of St. Sepulchre's. The service began with tho 278 th Hymn,sung to the tune of " M'-rlon," after which folio we. i the " Bidding Prayer," the congregation standing. The sermon was preached by the Hcv. Mr. Nelson, incumbant of St. Paul.-, who chose for bis text the first Kpist-lu to the Corinthians, 4th chapter and first verse, vlw delivered a very eloquent, sermon, in the course of which he treated of (.he several duties of the diaeonato, and of the diaconate and of the laity, addressing, also a few words of counsel and exhortation to the candidates for ordination. Messrs. Bradv, Scott, and Otwiiy, the candidates for ordinuti.in as deacons, were then presented to tho Bishop by Dr. Maunsell ; the litany was solemnly chaunted as far as " Holp in our infirmities," and during the sin-ing of the I9i h hymn, nine "St. Philip's," i he clergy proceeded to the Lord's Table, and the Communion Service was celebrated with special Collects. Thereafter the Right Reverend Dr. Cowio, Bishop of Auckland, proceeded to examine the candidates for deacons' orders, and to ordain them to the Diagonale.
The G-ospel Or the day having then been read (Luke xii., 35-38), Mr. Bares, the candidate for Priest's orders, was presented, and the Bishop addressed him in suitable terms, and put the usual questions. After the prayers of the congregation had been offered up for the candidate, tho hymn, " Veni Creator Spirifciu," tune, '' Holy Trinity," was sung with powerful and solemnising efl'ect, and his Lordship Bishop Cowie proceeded to ordain the candidate to the sacred office of Pries!.. The Kicene Creed was beautifully chaunted from Mercer's collection. The offertory sentences and prayer for the the Church Militant were offered, "and an offertory made to the Homo Mission —a very large sum being received in contribution. The whole service, which was of tho most solemn and imposing kind, was closed by the celebration of the iloly Communion.
