DIOCESAN SYNOD.
Theee was a largo attendance yesterday of clerical and lay members. The Bishop of Auckland presided. A motion, by the Bey. E. N. Bree, rein tire to the advisability of a decided effort, being made in Auckland for the clergy of the out-lying districts, and themiuistration of the Church of England there, was carried. —A general discussion ensued, in the course of which it was suggested that a public meeting should be held in reference to this subject j and that a card should be prepared with several objects named thereon, for which contributions are annually solicited ; and that the residents in country districts should be solicited to contribute regularly to the fund. —The next motion was, "That any trust property in the diocese of Auckland rested in the Q-euerul Fynod should be vested in the Diocesan Synod." The motion was withdrawn, so that it might be amalgamated with one to be proposed by Archdeicon Maunsell.—A motion was then made " That it would be clesiraHe to hay a shorter forenoon service, the present service beinginconveniently long."—After discussion the object of the motion was agreed to, and said to be attained, and leave was t'"en given to withdraw ifc.—' Die next subject discussed was religious education: - It was felt that Tcligous education should not be excluded. A resolution was passed in accordance therewith, and ordered to be forwarded to his Honor the Superintendent by the President of the Synod.— —The assessors to Bishop Selwyu, were re-ap-pointed to that office in connection with the present Bishop, except that the llev. D. Jones was substituted for the Eev. Mr. Eloyd. Arrangements were also, made to define the parishes of Holy -Sepulchre and St. Paul's.
