THE WAIKAREMOANA EXPEDITION.
The Waikaremoana expedition, under MrF. Hamlin and Lieut. Witty, has returned to Wairoa, after a prolonged absence o! five months, during which many hardships have been undergone by the brave fellows, and great successes achieved, not the least of which—&nd one "which Will be long remembered in history—is the crossing o the dreaded Waikaremoana Lake. Many, of the Ureweras, we understand, have surrendered, and three of the principal chiefs— Makerini, Hori, and Hona—have accompanied the expedition in order to confer with Mr. Ormond as to the terms of surrenfler. The expedition, as we said before, has been out fWo months, during six weeks of which tinmen had nothing to eat but potatoes. They have accomplished much, at very small expense, and every credit is due to the leaders. Messrs. Hamlin and Witty, who are now in Napier, after their arduous campaign.— Heia'd.
