NELSON.

Our files are to the 11th inst. The Examiner says:— The Phcebe arrived this morning from Manukau.

Mr. Luckie's "no confidence" motion, which came on for discussion last evening in tlie Provincial Council, missed fire in an unexpected fashion. Tlie honourable mover calculated with absolute certainty on a majority of three or four against the Government, but the motion was got rid of by Mr. Macmahon moving the previous question, which resulted in a tie, and was carried by the casting vote of the Speaker. The steamer CharL s Edward, about the safety of which there has been considerable anxiety, was reported at Westland on Monday. The Charles Edward left Westport for Hokitika, on last night week, but her machinery getting disabled, she was blown off the land, and endevoured to return under canvas. Nothing was heard of her after her departure from" Westport, until Monday evening, when a schooner which had arrived in Westport reported havng seen her on Saturday, off Rock's Point. Fears were entertained for her safety, not shared in by her owners, who bad the fullest confidence in the boat and skill of her captain. Intelligence of htr safi ty was however a great relief to the families of tlie men on board, several of whom are rending nere. We hope to hear of her arrival to-day.
