THE VOLUNTEERS.
The ordinary monthly inspection of the Auckland Cavalry and Prince Alfred Light Horse Volunteers took pace in the Domain, at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, in the presence of the inspecting-officer, Major Tisdall. About forty men were present —half belonging to the Prince Alfred Light Horse, and half to the Auckland Cavalry Volunteers. The first of these constituted the left, the last the right wing of the division, the whole being under the command of Captain Carey, commandant. The : following officers were also present: — Lieut. Smith, Cornets Motion and May, and Lieut. Isaacs, of the Artillery Volunteers. The last named officer was in charge of a field piece, which was fired in the presence of the horses, in order to break them into the sound of heavy firing. The division was put through a number of manoeuvres, and acquitted themselves very creditably. The parade lasted for about two hours and a half, after which the men were dismissed.
