AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS.

Messrs H. Matson and Co. report on .the Live Stock Market, &c, for the week ending Thursday, July 27th, . 1882, as follows :—Yesterday's supply of sheep at the Addington yards represented but a small entry, it being, in fact, the most sparsely supplied market of the season. In prima quality there was but little on offer, light weight fair average mutton being the order of the day. Notwithstanding the limited quantity to hand, the day's transactions opened with a sluggish trade, buyers seemingly utterly indifferent sis to purchasing, and several of tbe first Jines of sheep were passed unsold. Towards tho middle of the auction the trade began to realise the fact that unless they secured supplies they would be without their week's requirements, and a much better demand was shown through the remainder of the sale, most of the lots being cleared as they came under the hammer. At this time value, were about on a par with last week's quotations, though . had the earlier lots wnich were passed been sold at tbe time of offering there certainly would have been a drop of 6d to Is per head. As it was, however, this was avoided, and the early unsold lines were placed privately without difficulty at prices equal to closing rates. In crossbred., on account of Messrs J. Hurst, L. Whit*, H. M-Gonnell, P. Grant, W. Chamberlain, and W. B. Clarkson, we placed their various 1 nos at from 14s to 18.. per heid, and merino wethers for Mr S.'H(Smck and others at from 10s to 10s €d per head. For young store sheep a strong inquiry .till exists, and lis to 12s is nq imusnal price to see paid for two, fonr,_or stist—tootti crossbred ewes ; fullmouth merino wethers, 7s to 9s, according to condition. Of fat cuttle thero was a smaller entry than usual, the'quality varying from prime to very inferior. Of tbe former there were but few lines brought tp auction, and these eojd ''remarkably well, Mr W. Pearson's steers realitsing from £9 lOs to £11 2s 6d ; heifers, £8 per head, or equal to considerably over 25s per 100 lbs. ITor light weights nn_ old cows (o£ which the bulk of the entry consisted) the improvement was not bo marked, though we consider all classes of beef sold better than of late. In .store cattle there were but few on offer, though sufficient were penned to prove the fact that there i. a growing demand, with better values in perspective for all classes of youm», sound, healthy stock. The pig market at the present time is chiefly confined to store and light weight porkers, though we havo no doubt but that a few weekly consignments of heavier sorts would meet with a satisfactory sale. Tho totals yarded for the day comprised 4511 sheep, 305 head of cattle, and 119 pigs.

lloftsra Robert Wilkin and Co. report :— Then; was an average attendance of buyers lit the weekly u.'ilo of» .i.._pskins, which we hold in our New Z.aia_d wool stores. Thecomp-.tition was scarcely as brisk as at the previous sale, which caused a dulness in tho biddings throughout. IGSB skins were catalogued, and nil >old. Butchers' c.o__bred, large, 5.
