AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS.
Messrs 11. M.-i.'son imd Co. report on the Live Stock Market, &c. for the week ending Thursday, Juno Bth, 1882, as follows: —
The wet weather of tho past few days, so iar from checking the supply of etock for Wednesday's Kale, had but very little effect, especially in sheep, the yards for which were again crammed. Through there being no sale on May 24th, most of tho trade had run short of supplies, and were prepared to take advantage of last Wednesday week's heavy market, thus accounting for the full maintenance of values in the face of one of the heaviest sales ever held at Addington. Yesterday, however, buyers generally had stock on hand, and throughout the sale there was an absence of anything like competition, except for a few lines of priino quality and extra good sheep. For these prices about equal to the previous week's rates were obtained, inferior and medium class lines either suffering a drop of Is to Is Gd per head, or (as in many instances) being turned out'uneold. We note little or no alteration in tho price of young store sheep, for which thero is still a good demand ; but as the late severe weather will check any little growth of feed there may have been hitherto, we should not be surprised to find the trade in store sheep somewhat quieter during the next two months. In fat cattle, we offered between 80 and 90 head, and succeeded in quitting (with one exception) every lino. Prices, on the whole, were a little better, and for really good beef there was a firm demand at fair values, good steers realising from £6 10s to £8 per head. The major po- rtion of the entry, however, was of a very inferior description ; in fact, prime beef is every week getting scarcer and worth more money. Tho entry of store cattle was the smallest we have seen for many month*, and to those who are in the habit of visiting the Addington yards it will be sufficient to say that there is no alteration in trade For lines of good sorted two to three-year old steers any amount of enquiry exists, with but little chance of securing them here at present. In pigs, good baconers, of from 120 to 180 Ibs weight, are the more in request, prices equal to about 3£d per Ib being the current quotation. The totals yarded for the day comprised 7380 sheep, 252 head of cattle, and 242 pigs.
