Unwarrantable. — A case o£ dog shooting happened on riati'rdny. which might have been attended with ttieloss of human life. It appears that a dog of Mr HeR rici's bad i-een s< j en worrying one of Mr F. Arming's Mmep some days previously. On Mr Aiming hearing of this, he went down with a loaded gun, and shot tl)3 dog as he stood in the doorway of ttie house. Some of the children were standing quite close to the dog, and if Mr lienrici had not pushed one of them ove, and out of the way, it is quite likely it would have received some of the shot. After being shot, the dog retreated inuide the house, knocked over the dinner, which was just being sat down to, and besmeared the house with blood. One cannot help thinking that a different place tlian the door of a house wich several occupants should have been chosen for the dog's destruction, and we hear there is likely to be a law case over the affair. No one doubts Mr Arming should have shot the dog, but he should have chosen another place.
