The Clerk's leoort whs considered, after which it was lesolved that the railway auihoi'i'ies bo w>iiten to, to ascertain if '.hey will supply all the iron portion of a private siding at Stoney Island, for the nso of the Board, 1 bis Board being willing io pay for (he cost of conslrucliori of said siding ; and that Melchoff's lender to break meUl in reserve 1107 at 3s per yard be accopled, if according to the Clerk's specification ; also McAiiney's tender to cart meial from Tai Tapu to Abnriri at the same price as it cost on a foiaier occasion bo also agreed to. It was pioposed by Mr Parkinson, seconded by Mr Judge and earned, that the shingle lately caried by tbe Natives at LhUe River not being nearly up to the specification be not paid for—carried. OTOLOGY. Mr Coop apologised to the Board for using some loads ot shingle from a stack on the road, and also offered to pay any reasonable p-ice for same. AKAROA BAJLWAY. An official nolice of tbe opening o£ the Akavoa branch line was received, and it was resolved: " Tliat considering nhe great advao-ages this line will be to the district, espec r ally when esfended to Little River, a deputation from the Board, consisting of the Chaitman and other members, wait upon the Traffic Manager and oilier officers oE the Government to assist io tbe foui opening. Correspondence wr.s jeceived— from Messrs Donnan & Cotletill, jn•' I - niaiing that the ifansfer of road to Mi - Gebbie was completed, ami asking if the Board had made arrangements as to who bhonld pay i'or sfime. • .. Eesolved —•' 1 bat Messrs Duncan & Co. be requested to forward deeds, and the Board would pay cost." From ihe Aka'oa County Council, re application of this Board at its last meeting. Fioin same, requesling to be informed what action the Board has taken in tbe matter oC stopping a road leading to section 21,799. Resolved—" That the County Council be informed that this Board is entirely ignorant of the road laid off as described being closed, but that the matter will be Inquired into, as the Board had no intention that it should be so closed." Proposed by Mr Parkinson, seconded by Mr Wilson, and carried—" That the Chief Surveyor be requested to intimate if the road leading through sections -5,449 and 31,487 has been closed, and if so, for what cause, as this Board have had no notification of the transaction." From the South Waimakariri Board of Conservators, re cost of collecting rates for that body in this district. Resolved—" That as the amount to be collected is so small that the percentage allowed is not sufficient to cover the cost of advertisement, printing, &c, this Board decline to pay from the district funis for doing so." From Mr W. Montgomery, M.H.R., promising the matter of obtaining a mm to be allocated from the rents arising from pastoral leases on the borders of Lake j Ellesmere, for letting out said lake, would have his best attention. The surveyor to the Springs Road Board wrote re draiimge of Ahuriri lagoons. From Messrs Snow & Anson, re Peraki track.
Mr Wilson proposed, Mr Birdling seconded, and it «ras carried—" That \V. White & Co. be requested to remove their shunting rails in front of the Little River Post Office, so as to leave only one line of rails on the tram line in this place, the same to be completed within one month, failing which, the work to be done by the Bo.ird, as this is an obstruction to the public thoroughfare." . Resolved— ,, That £1 be allowed to Mr Blank to plant willows along the Halswell Paver bank, in the neighborhood of Tai Tupu, ; \vhero directed, and to be thenceforward in charge of them." NEW BATE. A genoral road rate of 6d in the pound for the year ending 31st March, 1883, was here ordered to be made, payable August Ist. DISSOLUTION OF THE COUNT? COUNCIL. Mr Parkinson proposed the following resolution :—" That this Board, after an experience of three years, considering the benefit derived by this district from the Akaroa Couuty Council is nil } while the expenditure ot' that body is heavy, beg that it may be dissolved, on the following grounds :—•" Tbnt, owing to the isolated position of the Peninsula, there is no communily of interests between them, and only the persons living in each district are conversant with its requirements ; that the county, during tho existence of the Council, has derived not the least practical benefit from that body ; that, as the funds of local bodies are henceforward mostly to be derived from rates, tho members of each road tlislri'jt ore most likely to spend them c.Mi i') ; '..'i2, Lo-.u!od giving their time ;.;..« ioi .-,!y ; and that a copy of this re- >- ,!a.
