Tne fto would, however, have to be paid to the Boroug'i Ti easuter before the extension was granisd. LIGHTING. The sergeant of police asked the Committee regarding the lighting of lamps outside hotels. The Chairman said that clause 124 of the Act provided that every I:censed publican should keep a lamp affixed over the door of hid premises fro:n sunset to sunrise, except when the Committee deemed the street or particular place was otherwise SiiOiciently lighted. As the borough, with the exception of the Beach road, was not now lighted, all publicans would have to keep their lamps lighted from sunset to sutnise. RENEWALS. It. Bayley, Waecketle's Hotel. No complaint. Granted. B. J. W. Chamberlain, Wagstaffs Holel. The Chairman said the Commit ice wished specially to draw the attention of > the applicant to the fact that there w_as an endorsement on his license to the effect that he had sold liquor on Sunday, con . trary to the Act. They were aware the house was well conducted, and the police had no complaint to make, as travellers were much pleased with the accommodation provided ; at the same time they desired to to point out that if the license were again endorsed, the Committee would have the option of taking away the license altogether, and that if there were three endorsements they were compelled by the Act to shut up the house. Mr Chamberlain asked if he was obliged to ask children what their ages were before serving them. He thought it difficult to ascertain what their real age was. The Chairman said he would have to use hia jiHgment on these matters.

Mr R'ch sflid loat t!ie police had spoken to linn regarding serving a girl who came ior liquor io take home. He had of course obeyed the police, but bo wishpd to ask the Committee if be were obliged !o refose to serve liquor to children who came to fetch it for their parents. It seemed io lvrn by clause 166 oE the Act that tbe penalty was only for supplyiog persoos under 16 with liquor "to be consumed on tbe premises,"
The Ctiai <nan s:\id that after referring <o clause 166 the Oomrvfiee saw that the Act only ioieoded to preveot persona urider 16 from d-'oljing io a licensed bouse. Tbe.o was noth'.og to prevent them being seived if they took (he liquor away.
