OKAIN'S DISTRICT ROAD BOARD.

A meeting of this Board was held on Friday last, in the Library, Okain's Bay. Present—Messrs Moore (in the chair), Barker, Bennett, and Oldridge. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Letters were read— From the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, enclosing accounts for the past year. From Mr O'Callngban, giving notice that he objected to the closing of the road which his section 15,437 fronted on. Some conversation ensued on the subject of an alteration having been made in the advertisement concerning this road. Mr Barker moved that the Chairman wait upon Mr Thacker and request a deposit, in accordance with section 96 of the Public Works Act. Carried. BKIDGE AT LITTLE AKALOA. A tender was received from Mr J. B. Barker, jun., for repairing the bridge at Little Akaloa. The Olerk reported that the bridge was in a very bad state, and that tho amount of the tender (£l2) was exceedingly moderate. The tender was accepted. bridge at le bon's. Mr Oldridge reported that a brictgo in this bay had been carried away. It would cost a good deal to repair, ,is the stringers were 40 feet long. Traffic was completely stopped as it was. He would move that the County Council bo asked for the sum of £30 to repair it. The motion was agreed to, and the Clerk instructed to write to that effect, at tho samo time informing the Council that the Board was nearly out of funds, and thoro were various other necessary works which required attending to. rate for 1881-82. Notice was given that at its nest meeting the Board would proceed to strike a rate, and the Clerk was instructed to notify the samo publicly, in terms of the Rating Act. Some accounts were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned.
