PIGEON BAY ROAD BOARD.

This Board held its monthly meeting in the Board Office on Saturday, August 6. Present—Messrs Hay (Chairman), Paton, Pettigrew, Budua, and Pitcaithly. The minutes of last meeting read and confirmed. The Chairman reported that, owing to the necessity for at once repairing damage to the roads caused by the recent rains, he had on his own authority put on men. The Board approved of his action, and thought it would be advisable to bend a man round all the roads to clear the mouths of the culverts.

The letter of Messrs White, Paton, and Knudsen—held over from last meeting— was now considered at some length. Ultimately Mr Pettigrew moved that the Board accept the road as proposed by Mr Holmes. This was seconded by Mr Pitcaithly and carried, Mr Paton and the mover and seconder voting for it, and Mr Budua and the Chairman against. The motion of Mr Budua, to leave the matter still in abeyance, was not seconded. Correspondence was read— From the Colonial Secretary, being circular asking for the cost to the Board of making up valuation roll. The Clerk Avas directed to supply tho information asked for. From Mr W. Paton, sen., asking liberty to put a gate across road at his place in continuation of a fence. The Clerk was instructed to inform him that the Board had no objection. From Mr Thos. Holliver, asking the Board for assistance in making a road track to his land. Tho Chairman and Mr Paton were authorized to treat with Mr Holliver in the matter. From the secretary to the Christchurch Hospital, enclosing copies of annual report. From the surfaceman, with monthly report. It was thought that a rate of ninepence in the pound should be struck for the current year, and the Clerk Avas directed to have the necessary public notices given.

After passing accounts amounting to £29 3s 4d, the Board adjourned.
