LITTLE AKALOA.

The annual meeting of householders was held at Little Akaloa on Monday evening- for the purpose of laying before th householders the Committee's report for the year, and electing a fresh Committee.

Some little discussion took place in reference to the Chairman of the Committee being Chairman of tho meeting.

Mr Barker said that according to Clause 12 of the Education Act the meeting could

choose its own Chairman

On the motion of Mr Hubbard, Mr [J, B. Barker took the chair.

The Chairman said the meeting had been

convened by the Board of Education in accordance with the Education Act of 1877 He then called upon the. outgoing Committee to give a report of its proceedings.

Mr John Bennett then asked the Secretary to read over the accounts, which was •done. No questions being asked, on the motion of Mr Brown, tho accounts were received and adopted as read. Some questions were then asked in reference to tbe proceedings of the late Com•mitteo. The late Chairman said be supposed it was on account of his occupying the schoolmaster's house. • A rather warm discussion enusued on ■the subject. L The Chairman said the next business was to proceed with the election of seven members to serve on tbe Committee for the ensuing year, and they should decide on the mode of election. On the motion of Mr Waghorn, it was •carried that it be by ballot, which resulted, in the following gentlemen being elected :■ —Messrs J. B. Barker, G. T. Bennett, C. Marshall, A. Waghorn, sen., A. Waghornjun., J. Pawson, and C. F. Hubbard. A Tote of thanks to the Chairman terminated a lively meeting. At a subsequent meeting of the newCommittee, Mr J. B. Barker was elected \ 'Chairman, and Mr. J. Hunter was elected secretary and treasurer. It was decided to ■call for tenders for school cleaning. The meeting then adjourned to the last 'Saturday in the month.
