RE THE TERRORS OF 1880.
To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail. ■'*"* Sir,—On reading your issue of June, 19 I noticed Professor Grimmer's prophecy of the wonderful and terrible events that **would happen from 1880 to 1887—drawn from the Perihelia of the four great planets Jupiter, Uranus, Noptune, and Saturn, being coincident, and that during this period there would be one universal carnival of death—his information thereof being ob--vtained from astrology. When penning the few leaves I lately - submitted to tho public on the end of the world in 1902, I was well aware that it " "would be preceded by events terrible in their nature, and dreadful to apprehend ; my knowledge of this not being obtained from astrology, but from the 16th chapter of the Rovelations of St..John the Divine. I had Borne thoughts, of .noticing this in ■my leaven, but reflecting .1 had done enough in intimating the' end being 80 near, I deferred doing fo. As to whether tho terrors foretold in tlmt'chnptcr will begin in 1880—1 say no. fiigim of a coming change will take place ; suthe are now going on ; the Jews are •eturning in Inrge numbers to the Holy land, and have a Building Association in Jerusalem, for renovating the .old wastes nnd repairing the citicß, the desolations of . many generations, thus giving the world usmirimco that the Kingdom of God is now at hand. . i-,-,■'■■' , Z,.
Another sign will be the comet that appeared in 1106. in' 1571 V and in 1848; it has a wonderful history, and'is said to have directed the shepherds and the magi to the manger at Bethlehem. Those who survive ""these seven years terrors—viz., from 1880 to 1888, being seVen clear years—will'exfe pcrience more enjoyment -than we dd how. The ungodly will be the earth ; the earth will be purified and yield more abundantly, and man will be happy. Take Tho 7 years of terror as a time .*. 7 . v Then 7 and 7aa times ... ... ... 14 2l " Proßcnt year v .,...... 1880 ; This brings the time v p to the efid Of 1901 and the end will take place: ! ih 1902, as I have shown by a number of proofs in my published leaves on the end of the world. «-I am, etc., ,/W JAMEH GOURLAY.
