THE COUNTY COUNCIL AND THE OKAIN'S ROAD BOARD.

To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail. Sir,—lt seems by your issue of July 24 that there is some little trouble yet between the County Council and the Okain's Bay Board about the £55 ss—the Okain's Bay share of the £500 allocated to the various Road Boards at a meeting of the Council on March 27. It appears to me, and to *** every ratepayer that I have Bpoken to on the subject, that the County Council has | / V#n doing the Okain's Bay Road Board Jf a great injustice in the matter. In tho first place, instead of dividingjthe whole of the money, they take out £250 for the Balguerie Road, which certainly tbey Wd no right to do, as the Council in faiA&jm should have divided the money first, in all the Road Boards had a right to a share of the amount. ~ , The next thing is—they undertake to * upend £50 8s out of the £55 5s due to the Okain's Board, somewhere on the Summit Road, without consulting the Board at all in the matter, and on work that is of no . * use to the Okain's district whatever* lam told on good authority that when the Okain's Bay Road Board applied for their ■share of the money they were told there was only £4 17s due to them. I hear they refuse to take it, and I think they are quite right to do so. Let the Council keep it, "" and lay it out in paving stones fortheir stables, or any other luxury that may occur to them. * In conclusion, the thanks of'the rate--payers in the Okain's district are due to Messrs Coop and Williams for trying to get justice done them iii the matter.-^-I am, etc., A RATEPAYER. .
