LOCAL MARKETS.

Messrs 11. Mateon and Co. report on the live stock market, &c, for the week ending Friday, April 9, as follows:—

Last Wednesday's sale at the Addington Yards presented, with one exception, the largest entry of stock for the season— 9151 sheep, 622 head of cattle, and 215 pigs being penned. There was a large attendance of the trade, and, considering the full market, mutton sold at fair equnble value throughout. Fair average weight crow-breds made 9s to 10s, top weights to lls, representing a slight drop on the previous week's sales Store sheep also were in good request, fully maintaining late ruling rates; 2 and 4-tooth fresh-conditioneti cross-brede brought 6s 6d to 7s 6d; aged cross-bred ewes (bad on tooth), 3e to ss. Taken as a whole, and with the large number of sheep cleared, we consider the sale highly satisfactory. Fat cattle were in full supply, but in consequence of the trade having bought privately to a considerable extent, biddings were slow and business difficult to transact. Store cattle were very dull of sale, and although a large number were unsold, we can quote little or no alteration in value. In pigs there was a full market, including a line of seventy head of mixed, iat and stores, from Wanganui, ail of which, together with the balance of our p"*-v, we quitted with a ready sale at late rates.
