AKAROA REGATTA.
To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail.
Sir, —I would like to ask, through the medium of your valuable journal, if it is intended to hold the annuul regatta in Akaroa on Anniversary Day. lam led to make the enquiry by reason of reading an account, over a fortnight ago, in the Christchurch papers, of a meeting of those interested in aquatics, to make arrangements for holding the Lyttelton Regatta on the Ist January, 1880, when all" officers and committee were appointed, and all preliminaries arranged for the successful carrying out of the regatta on the date named.
Now, Sir, I think you will agree with me that, as we are now a month behind Lyttelton, and to bring the Akaroa Regatta to a successful issue, steps should immediately be taken to call a meeting of those interested, and arrange for same. By doing so, and forming a strong working committee, is the only hope of making the Akaroa Regatta a success. Trusting that you, Sir, will agitate in the matter, I remain Yours, &c, BOW OAR. To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail. Sir, —Your report of my letter to the Road Board in reference to Waikerakikari and Gough's Bay roads is incorrect. I simply suggested that all necessary grading should be done before survey, and without making reference to the gentlemen whose names are mentioned as expressing an opinion about the line as at present laid off to Gough's Bay ; and I am certainly not aware of Mr Fenton having said anything about the matter. This explanation is necessary in order to prevent a wrong impression.—l am, yours, &c, JAMES DALY.
