ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
[We are at all times ready to give expression to every shade of opinion, but in no case do we hold ourselves responsible for the sentiments of our correspondents.]
EVERYBODY'S BUSINESS,
To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail,
Sir, —I like those screens in our licensed houses, and I like my own actions screened in every particular; don't you, Jack ? I like Liberalism, especially with borrowed money; don't you, John Beecher ? Conservative as you and I may be when rank opposition stares us in the face—to wit, W. Chamberlain. I like our small County measures out of 20 per cent, of the Land Fund ; though we have only a population of about 4000, we're a full blown County anyhow, and in the allocation of the residue of the funds, I suppose we'll each get our share. Andrews to win in preference to Wakefield, as I've drawn the former in a sweep on the Local Option Stakes. Not that I care so very much about 6d for a glass of swill, but do certainly object to paying 2s 6d for a feed of pork fed on broken crockery ; it reminds one so forcibly of Bob Lowe's speech " All Points." What is your opinion in reference to the above matters, Mr D. Wright, Clerk, &c, to the Okain's Bay Koad Board? If you have no opinion of your own, ask your chief, the heavy father of Little Akaloa.
Who is our member —I mean in the General Assembly ? Have we had any official notification of the fact ? Not in the local organ at any rate, Mr Newspaper Interest. Every poor councillor, of whom our representatives are supposed to be the authors, have to be declared in black and white ; and what about themselves ? Our member has never notified his thanks even to those who never opposed him for his election to his present position. I don't like those nominated rulers of our's any more than Sir Geo. Grey does ; they never screened me ! Give me Local Option in preference at any rate. Yours, &c, OLD GEOWL.
