UNEXAMPLED PHILANTHROPY.
To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail.
Siz, —Our modest and retiring road overBeer when accepting that office, remarked to the Board, with a knowing wink, and a bloom on that intelligent countenance, that haunts me still, that he did so solely on the ground of benefiting the public. There is a hidden pathos in this that could only be understood when viewing the gleam that overspread his features. Where shall we find on the whole wide Peninsula such eelf-sacrifice and selfabnegation ? But stay! How about the £3 a week ? Does he receive this oh the same principle ? Yours, &c., FOSCO. i
