LITTLE RIVER ROAD BOARD.

The usual meeting of this Board was held at the office, Kaituna, on Monday, the sth instant. Present—Messrs Parkinson (in the chair), Gebbie, Coop, and Goodwin. The following letters were received :— From the Chairman of the County Council, informing the Board that the Council had conclued not to engage an engineer for the present. From the same, asking if there would be any objection to the Clerk to the Board collecting the dog tax, he being allowed five per cent, for doing so. From the Chairman to the Committee re impounded Land Fund. From the Colonial Treasurer, stating that the sum of £852 8s 7d, being share of £2275 18s, separate account for Akaroa County, had been placed to the credit of the District Fund account in the Union Bank, and also stating that the Bank would allow six per cent, on the current account. From the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board, stating that it is, their intention to apply to the County Council to give directions as to ihe maintenance of a portion of the Christchurch road, assuming the said road to be in two districts. From Mr A. McPhail, inquiring if the Board had ever authorised the Akaroa Board to collect rates on sections 25351 and 25536. From Messrs Snow and Anson, relative to the track up Peraki Valley, and stating that the line of road had the approval of the Chief Surveyor, and asking the Board to send their overseer to inspect. From tbe Government Printer, enclosing account for Gazettes and Acts of Assembly for the current half year. With reference to Mr Barnett's application at a former meeting relative to drain pipes being placed near his property, the Board concluded that the Chairman and one other member visit the place and report. A letter having been received from Mr Morton about procuring road metal from his land, the Clerk was instructed to make arrangements. The Chairman to the Committee re impounded Land Fund was informed that this Board is prepared to assist and pay share of charges in the suit. The Clerk was ordered to obtain from Surveyors and Engineers in Christchurch their terms for certain work required by the Board, namely, mapping about five miles of new road, re-surveying about two miles of bush road in the western valley at Little River, re-surveying the Cemetery road, and a plan for some protective works above the upper bridge on the main road at Little River. The Chairman to the Countj* Council was informed that there were no objections to the Clerk collecting the dog tax. The Akaroa and Wainui Board being evidently under a misapprehension relative to the portion of the Christchurch road named in their letter, being in both districts, the Clerk was -directed to point out their mistake, and describe the boundary line to them. Mr M'Phail was informed that this Board has never authorized any other Board to collect rates for the sections named ; also, that the first-named section is one mile inside the boundary, and the second half a mile inside. The account sent by the Government Printer for Gazettes, &c, £1 10s, was ordered to be paid. The Board concluded that at their next meeting, on September 2, they would authorize a rate of sixpence in the £ to be levied on all rateable property in |the district. Tenders were ordered to be advertised for certain works. The Clerk was directed to get some necessary repairs done on the Lincoln road ; also, to get about 300 yards of road metal broken on the Lake Forsyth road. The Board then adjourned.
