AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.

Saturday, August 10. The adjourned meeting of this Board was held as above, at the office. Present—Messrs Duxbury (Chairman), Shadbolt, Williams, and M'Donald. Mr Martindale waited on the Board in relation to the road passing through his land. Consideration of the matter was deferred till next meeting. Mr Glynan also appeared to state that he had made a road off the Onuku road to his house, and requested the Board to compensate him for it, also to supply him with drain pipes. Mr Glynan was informed that he would be informed in writing of the Board's decision. . Ai/' Mr Piper attendance to request that the pegs on the road through hlkland might be pointed out to him. Mr Piper also called attention to the delay in the conveyance of his land. It was agreed that the solicitor to the Board be communicated with on the subject. After Mr Piper had left, a letter was read from Mr Nalder, stating that plan and description of tho site for the new office were " evidently incorrect." The Clerk was instructed to make out a list of transactions at present in the solicitor's hands, and to request him to explain the cause of delay in each unfinished cas<\ Mr A. Rhodes attended to ask the Board to open a road this side of the hill toward Stony Bay. The Clerk was instructed to visit and report on the road in question, Mr Rhodes volunteering to accompany him. road board endowments. Replies to the Board's circular on this subject were received from the Lincoln, Waireka, Otepopo, South Molyneux, Invercargill, and Matau Road Boards, and the Inangahaua County Council. A letter was read from Mr Montgomery, M.H.R., stating that a deputation, of which he was a member, had waited on the

Cabinet to urge the favorable considera tion of the Board's proposal. The Cabinet had promised to give the matter careful consideration, but he gathered from the individual opinions of Ministers that a favorable conclusion would not be arrived at. i. old compensation claims. Mr Williams asked how it was that a list of these claims had not been furnished to the County Council. Two meetings ago it had been ordered to be done, and it appeared that none had been forwarded. He thought the -Board was being brought into contempt. It was not as if they themselves neglected their duties. The Chairman and Mr Shadbolt concurred in th<-se remarks. Kenny, stating that his month's maintenance was more than up, and asking tbe Board to take the road off his hands.
