Resolved—That the Vestry regret to be compelled to lay Mr Wagstaff's resignation before a meeting of Parishioners, and that the Vestry desire to express to Mr Wagstaff their sincere appreciation of hia services as Parishioners' Churchwarden, and their regret at the prospect of losing the assistance of so single-minded and energetic a Churchwarden as Mr Wagstaff haa proved himself to be. The following is a copy of a letter received from Mr Wagstaff : — " Akaroa, 6th August, 1878. '■ To the Rev. P. C. Anderson, the Vestry, and Parishioners of Akaroa. "Rev. Sir and Gentlemen, —It ia with considerable regret that I have to tender herewith my resignation of the office of Parishioners' Churchwarden ; but, as I fear that my stay in the parish will now be only of short duration, and that probably I may not be here at the next meeting of the Vestry, I have thought it advisable in order not to delay the business of the parish, to give you an early intimation of my intention to resign my office. '• Whilst thanking you, Rev. Sir and Gentlemen, for the assistance you have accorded me conducting the work of the Parish, and whilst I express the regret that I feel in severing the connection that has existed between us, I sincerely trust that my efforts on behalf of Church work in Akaroa have met with the approval of the Parishioners. ** Although, in furthering my views, I may have been brought into antagonism with individuals, I hope that in parting with them I have their forgiveness. '* In saying farewell, may I be allowed to express the hope that my successor's duties will be rendered more pleasant than mine have been by the Parishioners more liberally subscribing to the funds required for carrying on the work of the Church in the parish. " I am, lt Rev. Sir and Gentlemen, '• Your obedient servant. " Henry Wagstaf."."
