CORN EXCHANGE REPORT.
' The following is the report for the week ending Friday evening, July 19 :—
Grass Seed. — Rye grass is in fair demand, with not an over supply. First class would command 6s per bushel. Medium, from 4s 6d to 5s 3d per bushel. Cocksfoot is worth 7d per lb.
Potatoes. —The demand continues \ery good; few sales are made. Orders for export are pending at high rates. Farmers are refusing £3 5s per ton, most of ■them preferring to hold. There is a strong inquiry set in already for seed purposes, and high rates are asked by the holders. Cheese and Butter.—Sales of cheese are freely made at s£d to Gd per lb. Prime potted butter is inquired for ; some holders are asking lid per lb. Buyers are open to do business at 10d per lb.
The land sales on Thursday amounted to 7889 acres, as follows:—Ashley, 2GOGa ; Sehvyn, 2280 a lr; Akaroa, 160 a 3r; Ashbiirton. Gs6a 2r ; Geraldine, 552 a3r ; Waimate, 1432 a 3r, realising £15,978.
