STOCK AND STATIONS.
The weather generally during.the past week has been favourable for the agricultural districts, and all farming operations are being vigorously proceeded with. The severe frosts prevent anything like a spring in pasture, and feed except in a few favoured localities is very scarce. At Addington on Wednesday, 6920 sheep, 237 head of cattle, and 238 pigs were yarded for the week. There was a large portion of good useful trade mutton with a few lines of exceptionally good quality and heavy weights, which met with keen competition. There was an improved tone in the market and an upward tendencj , . Best butchers' made equal to 2d, and a shade over; for boiling purposes l|d to l|d. There was no demand for stores, which met with very dull sales. There was an over-supply of beef of good useful quality brought forward, which caused some lines to be passed in unsold. Best quality light weights made equal to 8s to 30s, inferior 25s to 27s 6d per lOOlbs. Pigs cleared at fair prices for bacon purposes ; stores dull.
