THE COUNTY ENGINEER.

To the Editor of the Akaroa Mail

Sir, —A writer in your valuable journal, subscribing himself " Burgess," seems to be aggrieved because the Akaroa County Council did not give the appointment of County Engineer to a local resident. If "Burgess" (who seems to argue fairly enough) had been aware of the little bit of what is termed in navvy parlance " niggley gouging " round the water in the road diversion through Piper's land, perhaps he might not have blown the trumpet for his pet protege in so loud a key. Yours, &c, TIM FINN.
