REPORT OF THE AKAROA DISTRICT SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The Akaroa, School Committee held a meeting on Saturday evening last, to receive the annual report, which had been drawn up by a sub-committee elected for that purpose, and. which we subjoin in full. The report shows a great improvement in attendance, and the general standard of attainments presents a marked difference for the better to that of former years, The following is the committee's report to the householder's :— " Your committee submit to this meeting of householders a balance-sheet of account of receipts and expenditure for tho past year. Total receipts, £440 0s 9d ; expenditure, £339 18s 3d, which have been duly audited by Mr A. I. M'Gregor, the auditor .appointed by the committee,

" The committee have to report that they have been constant in their efforts to promote .the welfare of...the school. They have held regular monthly meetings, which haVe been well attended. "The school during the past year has been well attended, -the number on the roll December quarter being 173, against 141 for the correspondingquarter of 1876. : v The attendance during the past quarter has been Very steady, occasionally reaching 140. " Your committee, on retiring, wish to urge on the incoming committee, the urgent necessity that exists for an infants' class room, as the noise arising from the teaching of this class interrupts the other portion of the school ; also the procuring of objects and mechanics. " During the past year the master has attended the teachers' examination, ■ and has passed with credit, being classed in the Ist division of the 2nd class. The master has intimated to the committee his intention, should sufficient inducement offer, of opening an evening class for girls above thirteen years' of age, in accordance with clause .86 of the Act. No doubt this will supply a want felt by the elder children." .
