AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD GENERAL ANNUAL MEETING OF RATEPAYERS.
The annual general meeting , of ratepayers of the above road district was held in the Board's office, on Tuesday, the Ist instant, at noon. Mr H. Piper, chnimian of the Board, occupied the chair. There were only a small number of ratepayers present, and little or no interest seemed to be taken in the proceedings.
The minutes of thft last meeting having been read and confirmed, the Chairman then read in detail the financial position of the Board for the past year, from which it appeared that the total income from all sources was £12,060 9s 10d, including a balance ot £2 2055s Id, brought forward from last year's accounts. The total expenditure had been £2,775 6s 2d, which loft a balance to credit in the Bank of £9 285 3s Bd. The Chairman further explained that the outstanding liabilities on contracts in hand and let was £1,557 10s Gil. They had a further charge against them of £700. or thereabouts, for compensation to parties whose land had been got for road diversion. The Chairman was sanguine that a large part of this sum could be got from the Government,'as three of the largest items in the list were old Provincial liabilities, of which they had recently heard so nvich, viz., those of Mr St. John, German Bay Hill diversion, Mr A. C. Knight, Wainui extension, ami his own claim for the new Okain's Bay Road. It would, he thought, be most. unfair to appropriate the ratepayers funds in hand for these 'old Provincial debts, some of which this Board has not had any voice in contracting %
Mr G. H. Saxton then moved that the accounts as read he adopted- Seconded by Mr S. Curry, and carried. Mr Saxton further proposed that the thanks of the ratepaj'ers are due to the, jnembers ■ of, the Board for the very efficient way in which they haVe conducted the business of the district for the past twelve months, which was carried by acclamation.
The Chairman then read the advertisement from the Akahoa Mail, and stated that the principal business of the meeting was the election of three of their number to serve as members of the Board for the coming year, and called upon any electors present to propose candidates. The following gentlemen were then duly proposed and seconded :—Mr F. W. Williams, proposed by Mr G. H. Saxion, and seconded by Mr J. Glynan.. Mr Samuel Curry, proposed by Mrß. Shadbolt, and seconded by Mr W. Curry. Mr B. Shadbolt, proposed by Mr John Glynan, seconded by Mr M. ' Morgan.
