HARRY'S BAY.
The midautijiraer treat to the children attending tlie'jday and Sunday schools in this Bay was c| riginally fixed for the 22nd December, but had twice to be postponed on account o£ the unfavourable weather. However, Mod lay, the 31st nit., proved to be more propi ions, and by four o'clock the youngster*' had mostly assembled at Mr Latter's lW ise, to which they had been invited. * as duly served, and quickly despatched, ill' being anxious to commence the spirt ts. These were made as varied as circut istances would allow, and continued to t c enjoyed with unabated vigour to nearly ' nine o'clock, when they were wound up with a small display of fireworks, whic '), though last, was not .least in the anio int of fun they afforded. A very enjoyabl « evening was spent, many of the parents o:.:' the children joining with the School Con mittee to make the time pass as pleasantl yas possible. The Rev. P. C. Anderson had kindly come from Akaroa on the .■ 21at, and examined the school, and, with Mrs Anderson, was also present at the treat, evidently joining heart and soul in the pleasant task of amusement. Dv ring the evening the Rev. gentleman distil outed the prizes which were awarded as: L follows :—
Class IV—Holj na Boothroyd, 1; Mary Le Clere, 2. Clas. -c lll—Niels Nielsen, 1 ; Josephine Davit., 2 ; Kate M'Phail, 3. Class ll—Maggit Stewart, Alfred Prime, and Carrie Nielsei i, equal. Class I—Thos. Perham, 1 ; Alice ■■ Prime, Alex. Stewart, and William NibU It, equal. '"'lnfant Class —Frank Perhamj 1 ; Edmund Jones, 2. Sewing — Kate 3 Vl'Phail, 1 ; Josephine David, 2. There were also five prizes given for attendai ice, the numbers being so nearly equals Thomas Perham, 140; Kate M'Phail, 14( >; Frank Perham, 139 ; Mary Perham, 131 >; Alice Prime, 139 ; Niels Nielsen, lis£ •;. and of the Sunday scholars, the first; orize was obtained by Amy Le Clere ; Cβ ristina Mackay, 2 ; attendance, Arthur Lt itter.
Towards the eel -o<>] prizes, W. Montgomery, Esq., M.E [.8., contributed the handsome sum of £. 5 3s, and to th& treat, offerings were me st freely made by alii interested, indt ;ed far more than "could be consumed. Altogether, this was certainly the most st lccessful thing of the kind held in the Bay, and the only regret was that Mr M'Clur <?, the master, was unable to.be present. \ At the close, after a few appropriate woe is, Mr Walter Prime called for three for '. Mr and Mrs Latter, which were most hear! ily given.
