PIGEON BAY ROAD BOARD.

A special meeting of the above Board was held at Mr Gillespie's on Friday evening, Nov. 23rd. Present—All the members. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Mr Pitcaithley introduced Mr F. W. Thompson, the newly appointed district schoolmaster. Proposed by Mr Pitcaithley, and se conded by Mr Budua,—-" That Mr Thompson be appoinied clerk to the Road Board at a salary of £25 per annum." Carried. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Treasury, Wellington, enclosing duplicate voucher for £30 Is 6d ; being first instalment of subsidy due for year 1877-78. From the Under Secretary for Public Works, re proposed line of road between Pigeon Bay and Port Levy, and asking the Board to nominate, in conjunction with the Port Levy Road Board, a surveyor, to lay out the said line of road, and to submit the name of said surveyor to the Chief Surveyor of the Canterbury Provincial District.

The clerk was directed to write to R. Fleming, Esq., Chairman of the Port Levy Road Board, and inform him that the Pigeon Bay Road Board have nominated H. H. Fenton, Esq., C.E., as surveyor to lay out the said road, and asking the Port Levy Road Board to accept the nomination ; and in the event of the Port Levy Board declining to do so, to ask Mr Fleming to be so kind as to attend the next ordinary meeting of the Pigeon Bay Board on Saturday, December Ist, to confer with them on the subject, this latter request being made on account of the ill health of Mr Gillespie, the chairman of the Pigeon Bay Road Board. Also to write to Mr Fenton, asking him on what terms he will undertake to survey the said road, either by day or contract work, Mr Fenton's reply to be laid before the Board on Saturday, December Ist.

The Chairman suggested that a culvert be laid at the junction of the new and old roads on the Akaroa and Pigeon Bay line.

Proposed by Mr Budua, and seconded by Mr Hay—" That the work be left in the chairman's hands." Carried.

The clerk was directed to write to A. Thompson, Esq., solicitor to the estate of the late'G. Holmes, Esq,, requesting payment of rates due for year 1876-77.

Also to write to the Police, requesting them to impound all cattle, <&C" ? , found trespassing'oh the main road in the Pigeon Bay District. The meeting then adjourned till Saturday, December Ist.
