AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.

Saturday, Dec. 1

Present — Messrs Williams, Lelievre, Shadbolt. In the absence of the chairman, Mr Williams was voted to the chair. Messrs Sager and Kingston waited on the Board with a request that the Old Okain's Bay road, as far as the reserve, might be re-formed. The clerk was instructed to visit the locality and report. William Nihil, a Maori, was present to ask -that the direction of the Onuku road diversion might be along the beach to the Red Hocse. The matter was deferred for the surveyor's opinion. ■CORRESPONDENCE. From Secretary of Public Works, Wellington, stating that a sum of £900 had been transferred from the County Trust Fund, and placed to the joint credit of the Akaroa and Wainui and Little River Road Boards for the formation of the road from Mount Bossu ridge to Lake Forsyth, both Boards to guarantee that a survey of the proposed line be submitted to the Chief Surveyor of Canterbury for approval, also requiring that the name of the surveyor chosen by the Boards be likewise submitted, it to be clearly understood that any claims for compensation, &c, on the road will have to be defrayed out of this £900, with, perhaps, a small sum out of the vote for diversions, these being the only available colonial funds, and that all expenses over and above this must be provided for by the Boards themselves. The clerk was instructed to, write to the Little River Road Board, asking if they would be willing to appoint Mr Fentpn as surveyor.

From the Chairman of the Akaroa County Council, stating that he had ieceived a request from the Minister of Public Works to give an order in the Board's favour for the following sums, to be expended on grants as mentioned, viz: Long Bay track, £350 ; Wainui road extension, £1549 14s ; and asking the Board for the name of the bank with which the Board's business was transacted; also, acknowledging receipt of the Board's letter re special grants. From the same, saying that, in reply to the Board's question as to the new road from Akaroa to German Bay hill, it has not been mentioned to the County Council, and does not appear in the special grants; also, informing the Board, with reference to d"g taxes, publicans' and carriers' licenses, &c, that, by resolution of the •County Council, the Boad Board was entitled to all fees arising from these sources an this district

From W. Montgomery, Esq., acknowledging receipt of Board's letter re continuation of the Onuku road to the lighthouse, and that as stores, &c, would be landed close to the site cf the lighthouse, the Government would not be recommended to expend any money on a road inland to that site.

From Secretary of Public Works, Wellington, stating that, in accordance with the Board's request, certain plans and specifications now in the custody of the Resident Magistrate were to be handed over to the Board-

From J. Glynan; enclosing a plan of his land on which' the Oriuku road encroached, and requesting payment for 'the same;

also, informing the Board that as he would not have two roads through his property, the Board must give him full power to close the old road as soon as the .new road is made.

The clerk was directed to refer Mr Glynatt to his former letter.

From Mr A. I. M'Gregor, reporting on a site for new 'ttoad Board office, and stating tjjat the site suggested by the Board, viz., that piece of land at the junction of the Little Akaloa road and the road up Shadbolt's flat, about 1| chains back from the frontage on Duvauchelle's Bay road, is suitable, and that Mr Piper, the proprietor of section 9737, of which the proposed site forms part, expresses himself as willing to sell half an acre square for £30, and that the price was reasonable.

It was proposed by Mr Lelievre, seconded by Mr Shadbolt, that Mr Piper's offer be accepted, and that the site be surveyed.

Consideration of the continuation of the Long Bay road, through George's Bush, was postponed for further information from the engineer. TENDERS. Duvauchelle's Bay. — J. W. Widdicombe's tender was accepted. French Farm and Bamfs Bay Road. — W. Widdicombe, 3s 4d per yard, one month; J. and T. Brough, Is per yard, one month, beach metal; do, 5s per yard, one month, broken metal; Lines and Stewart, 2s lid per yard, three weeks, beach metal; do, 5s 6d per yard, three weeks, broken metal. J. and T. Brough's teader for broken metal was accepted. A tender for Wainui Main road, through Coll M'Donald's property,, was deferred for the engineer's report. PAYMENTS. & S. d.
