AKAROA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Present—His Worship the Mayor, Councillors Wagstaff, Cullen, Billens, Sunckell, Annand, O'Reilly, and Penlingtoh.. The Mayor stated that the keys of the office, lately in .the., occupation of' Mr Fenton, had been handed over to him; and that therefore the Oounc|l was in a position to remove'there when fea'dy.' He -believed that December Ist was the date-fixed for the removal. ' ■ .■■.'■... > CORRESPONDENCE. From W. Montgomery, Esq.-, stating that he had seen the Commissioner of Customs with regard to the Akaroa Lighthouse, and that the work would be commenced in a short time. The Clerk was instructed to write aud acknowledge the letter with thanks. From H. Wagstaff and others requesting the Mayor to call a; public meeting to enable the candidates for the Mayoralty to express their views. X. Cr. Wagstaff moved, seconded by Cr. Penlinft-ton, that on the occasion of the removal of the Council's office the Insurance agent be requested to endorse the. policy to that effect. , Advertisements, wrere ordereed to be inserted notifying the removal of office, a.nd also calling for tenders for the valuation of nrnnnrtinfl within the Borough.
Cr. Sunckell drew the attention .of the Council to the action- of the General Government in resolving to take away the Canterbury Land Fund.. It was plain to all sensible people" that'this was robbery. He thought the Council should take some action in the matter- and show- their feeling against this resolution of thp Government. His Worship '.did "not consider the Council could do anything in the matter. It was entirely outside their business. ,/. Gre. Wagstaff would suggest to Cr. I Sunckell that he should ask the Mayor to call .a public meeting to ventilate the subject, c Cr. Sunckell said that was what he meant.
The matter was then allowed to drop. This concluding the business, the Coun cil adjourned.
