Last night the Rev. Mr Berry preached at the Wesleyan Church, his text being the disgraceful conduct of members of Parliament in being made drunk to keep them from voting. Auckland, November 12. Several charges of fraudulent bankruptcy, for concealing estate in connection with his late bankruptcy, was preferred at Police Court to-day, against H. S. Meyers. Only first case heard. . His clerk, Stichbury, was the chief witness. The defence was reserved for the ft Supreme Court. Heavy bail taken. Other case will be heard to-morrow. Timaru, {November 12. A shocking affair occurred here today, the police discovered the dead body of a child in a house occupied by a man named Coleman, and his five children. The child was supposed to have died of fish-poisoning, and another child was found dying of scarlet fever. Dr. Mclntyre, medical officer of health, was called in. He ordered immediate issolation of the inmates of the house. Father in a mad state, aud is reported to have had. a rope round his eldest daughter's neck to hang her, but was prevented just in time.
