AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.

Saturday, October 6. Present:—Messrs Williams, Lelievre, Duxbury, and Shadbolt. In the absence of the chairman, Mr Williams was voted to the chair. CORRESPONDENCE. From tbe Chief Surveyor re the Flea Bay and Heads road, staling that if the Board surve}* the road in the most suitable place, without interfering with old sections that have been surveyed, the Government Surveyor would receive instructions to pick up the line and adopt it if found to be iv the best place. ',

From Mr Montgomery, acknowledging receipt of memorials and correspondence in connection with the Mount Bossu road, and promising to attend to the request of the Board with regard to laying the same before the Government, but stating that he was not quite certain whether the Board wished the Government to take the responsibility olf the Board by making the road under the supervision of a competent engineer, or merely desired an expression of opinion. It was proposed by Mr Duxbury, seconded by Mi' Shadbolt, that the following telegram be forwarded to Mr Montgomery:

—*' Special Grants.—Your letter of 4th instant to hand. Correspondence was forwarded simply to shew urgency of work, and to know whether the Board has power to divert monies, voted for a special purpose, to meet the wishes of a majority of residents in the locality in accordance with petition forwarded. Wish for all particulars re amounts. ■ No letter yet received from General Government re this matter, and wish to have German Bay main road diversion opened for traffic at once. " F. W. Williams. '• Chamiian pro tern." From J. Wright, requesting that his name be taken off a petition, previously forwarded, as he had not read the same, and had misunderstood its nature when signing. From Moore Morgan, in reference to fencing Long Bay road through his land, stating that he would rather the Board undertook it as he could not spare the time. From Louis LeValliant re road to his section. From H. Dewar, requesting payment in full, as he had completed his contract for breaking metal. From T. Bothroyd, stating that he had done two days work removing slips on the old Pigeon Bay road, unauthorised by the Board, as there was not time to comnmni- ]

cate with them, and the work was urgent' and enclosing his account for the same. The Board agreed to pass the account, but it was to be distinctly understood that no precedent was established by their so doing. TENDERS For carting and spreading motal on the Little River road. J. Mr Duxbury moved, seconded by Mr Lulievue, that Mr Coll Mac Donald be written to, asking what amount lie would take as compensation for the Wainui Main Road Extension, as laid out through his property, the Board being unable to comply with his request, and give him the old road, as their doing so would close frontage to other parties. ONUKU ROAD. It was resolved, in regard to Mr Glynan's letter re the Onuku road encroaching on his property, that if Mr Glynan would pay the expense of the survey, provided that the road was found notto be on his land as stated, the Board would institute a survey of the road, when, if the road was found to be on his land, the Board would give him reasonable compensation, and defray the expense of such survey. KAIK ROAD. Re the petition from Mr Henry Aylmer, and others, the Board decided not to expend any more money on the Kaik road, until it had been regraded ; and the clerk was instructed to write to Messrs J. Porter and Glynan, asking on what terms they would allow of that portion through their properties being regraded. OLD HEAD OF BAY ROAD. The clerk was instructed to advertise that a public meeting of the ratepayers be called for the 20thinst., at the Road Board Office, Akaroa, for the purpose of considering the closing of the Old Head of the Bay road through Mr Joseph Libeau's property. LONG BAY ROAD. It was resolved that Mr E. Lelievre be written to, asking what price he required for the land through which the road passes. WAECKERLE'S CORNER. Mr Lelievre proposed, seconded by Mr Shadbolt, that the deeds of Mr Waeckerle's corner be drawn out. The clerk was instructed to write to Mr E.
