STOCK AND STATIONS.

At the Addington Saleyards, on Wednesday, 4898 sheep and 262 head of cattle came to hand. The quality of the fat sheep was exceptionally good. Prune quality longwools realised 17s Gd each ; good, 16s Gd to 17s ; second do, from 14s 6d to 16s. A large number of fat merinos also came forward ; one line of superior quality brought lis each ; second quality sold at from 8s to 9s per head. The cattle yarded comprised several lines of good quality beef, the biddings a°*aiu being very spirited. Best Bullocks (heavy weights) sold at from £16 to £17 iOs ; nice quality young do, from £12 5s to £13 5s per head, some of the lots averaging as high as 35s per IOOIbs. Other lots of not such good quality averaged .i shade over 3Us per 1001 bs. A good supply of stores came forward ; for yearlings and two year-olds there is still a very great demand, and prices ruled at fully os per head higher than last week's rates. The land sales on Thursday amounted to 778G acres, as follows :—Ashley, 123 ; Selwyn, 2208 ; Akaroa, 240 ; Ashburton, 3201 ; Geraldinc, 1272 ; Waimate, Gi'2 ; realising £15,572* Messrs H. Matson and Co. report on the live stock market, &c, for the weekending Friday, August 17, as follows :—On Wednesday last', 2G2 cattle, 4898 sheep, and 4G pigs were penned off for the week's supply. The quality of the stock generally wan •superior. The best cattle offered were a line of bullocks from Messrs. Hay's Annandale estate, which sold at prices ranging from £13 up to £16 5s and £17 10s per head. In sheep, the best lots sent forward were Messrs. Gould and Cameron's E. J. Lee's and Thos. Dowling's. Our sales for tho day comprised 182 head of cattle, 3153 sheep," and 47 pigs. We cleared all our cattle with the exception of 10 head, at the following rates :—2O fat bullocks, at an Average of £13 lis per head : 15 at £9 10s; 20 head, at £8 ss; and lines of stores at from ,£G to £7 15s per head ; young stock at full rates. Outside, we have sold a line of"200 head of young stores at market quotations. In sheep, our sales were 175 prime cross-breds at 15s 6d, 16s, and 17s per head; 281 merino wethers at lis : 200 two-tooth Leicester wethers, at 17s (id per head ; 151 cross-bred wethers at 14s Gd and 15s ; 159 ewes at 12s Gd ; 45 ewes at 13s and 13s 3d; 420 merino wethers at 8s 3d lo 9s, 109 cross-breds, atl*2sGd ; 435 do at 13 •, and 156 do at lis Gd, 8G at 12sand 14s; and sundry lines at quotations* Two small lots of cross-breds were turned-out unsold at 10s Gd and lis Gd head. Outside we have sold several lots of stores and fat sheep, including 1000 cross-breds at market rates. Wool, Skins, Hides, and Tallow.—-At our weekly sales on Thursday, at the Wool Stores, Casliul street, 2180 Bheepskins (chielly superior), 58 lnde3. several small packages of inferior wool, and GO bags of rough fat were catalogued. The" biddings displayed less vitality than on' the preceding sale day. Shippers having just received their English advices, which are below anticipation, they were earless of buying, at a slight reduction. In cross-breds the prices obtained were very irregular, there, being in many instances a difference of 7d to lOd each in the same quality skins. The best butcher's cross-breds, of which the bulk to hind oonmted. sold at from 5s Gd, oslOd, os, 6> 6d, Gs Bd, to G.-i iOd each ; second quality 4s Gd. ss, to 5s 4d each ; merino, extra good, 5s 3d to 5s lOd each ; second quality 3s 6d to 4s Gd each; country skins. 3s, 3s 6d, to 4s Gd, to 5< lOd each. Hides, salted, 4£d per lb.; green, 3id per lb ; calf. 6d per lb. Rough fat, best description, clean and well preserved, 2-£ d to 3d per lb; second quality, 2\d to 2|d per lb ; j inferior, 2d per lb. The wool to hand re- j euires no comment. —Tattorsall's On Satur- j clay last, G5 horses were catalogued, ranging , from superior heavy draught to worthless , weeds. We disposed of a large proportion,! and quote superior heavy draught mares

and geldings at £50 to £60 up to £70 ; fair to ordinary, £35 to £45; inferior, to £30, good hacks up to weight, £2o to £35 ; bugg} v horses, £25 to £35 ; for ordinary, £15 to £18 ; weeds, £5 10s to £8 10s per head.—ln lands, we have sold 1478 acres at' Ashburton for £4434 i 120 acres at Lincoln at £30 per acre ; and an interest in a small leasehold at St Albans for £100.
