COMMERCIAL.
Akaroa, August 20. Messrs Bridge and Bushell report selling by auction yesterday, on behalf of Mr Cross, Pigeon Hay Road, his cattle and dairy plant. Cows were knocked down at prices up to £10 per head, and satisfactory values were realised throughout. TfROM THE LYTTELTON TIMES. Christchurch, Friday Evening. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. ' The past week has been devoid of any transactions of importance. There is an entire, absence of speculation, and the export business has shrunk into the narrowest proportions. Oats are .somewhat weaker, and a few of the large holders have been offering parcels to quit at a concession on previous rates. We quote 3s 4d to 3s Gd. Flour remains at £17 f.0.b., but with an easier market. The bulk of the orders taken some time ago are now nearly completed, and the millers are, therefore, not so pushed. Bran and sharp are £4 and £5 respectively. There is a fair inquiry fur oatmeal at £20. Potatoes continue dull, and are worth 32s 6d to 355. Dairy Produce—We have no change to report. Butter is worth Gd, while an extra good sample might bring _d more ; cheese, 5d ; bacon and hams unchanged.
