AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.
A special. meeting of this Board was held in the office last Saturday afternoon. Present—Messrs H. Piper, (Chairman), J. Duxbury, E. Leleivre, F. Williams, and B. Shadbolt. A letter was read from Mr. Dicken, requesting permission to catch water at the road side, French Farm school. The Board granted the permission as requested subject to the approval of the overseer o£ works. A letter was read from Mr. Adams, resigning hia position as clerk to the Board. Mr. Williams moved that the Board accept Mr. Adams resignation, and regrets losing so valuable a servant, and beg to express their best wishes for his future welfare. Mr. E. D. Lelievre seconded the motion, which'was carried unanimously. The Chairman brought under the notice of the Board the desirability of securing a site for a new office in the neighborhood of the Head of the Bay, as it was too much to ask to travel to Akaroa on the Board's business. Mr. Duxbury quite agreed with the Chairman's remarks, and had little doubt they could let their present office to the Borough Council, and thought the site should not be more than a mile from the Somerset Hotel; Mr. F. Williams proposed, seconded by Mr. Leleivre, that tenders be invited for a suitable site for Boad Board office, of half an acre or thereabout in the neighborhood of Head of the Bay. The motion was carried unanimously, and it was agreed that tenders close on 14th July next.
The Board thought it would be satisfactoryto Mr. Adams to have the booksaudited up to date prior to his leaving. Mr. Shadbolt proposed that Messrs W, Wood and A. "I. McGregor be asked to andit the, books of the Board, and that the books and accounts after auditing, along with the properly of the Board be handed over to Mr. Barwick, who would act as interim clerk. Seconded by Mr. Duxbury, and carried. The Board then adjourned, to meet on 30th inst., at 1 p'm.
